3 Simple Hacks for a Clutter-Free Christmas

Okay… it's truth time. We all know that Christmas is a joyful season filled with family, parties, and numerous activities, which inevitably creates exhaustion. This week, I had four after-work holiday parties (one at my home), which blew up my regular schedule. Cue a sh*#storm throughout my house. We're talking laundry piles, dirty dishes, and a bathroom that looks like… well, I can't even describe it. So now I'm in a bad mood and feel overwhelmed. According to the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, clutter can affect our anxiety levels, sleep, and ability to focus. So, I'm regrouping and utilizing three hacks to maintain a sense of order, especially during the week between Christmas and New Year, to keep unwanted chaos at bay.

  1. Keep a Clean Kitchen Sink: After a long day of Christmas commitments, I've left dirty dishes for the next day. However, cleaning dirty dishes before going to bed reduces morning stress. And who wants to start the day stressed out? Not me.

  2. Focus on High-Traffic Areas: Instead of trying to maintain a perfectly clean home throughout the holidays, I'm concentrating my efforts on areas like the living room, kitchen, and entryway. As they say, "A cluttered home, a cluttered mind."

  3. Make Your Bed: It may seem like a small thing, but making my bed each morning sets a positive tone for the day. It's a quick and easy way to maintain order in one of my most personal spaces.

I know these hacks are so simple, but don't we need a little simplicity in our lives during December? In other words, the big takeaway that I really want to impart is… give yourself a break and allow for downtime amidst the holiday rush. After all, the true spirit of Christmas is peace and love, not chaos and dread. It's just a little something to think about.

Wishing you all a Christmas filled with joy, laughter, and a little less clutter. XOXO Katy
